Computer Slow to Boot and Sluggish Performance

Summary

Computer slow to boot and sluggish. Open Device Manager to find any problematic devices.
Remove questionable device and then full power cycle the device to make sure correct driver loads/installs.

Symptom

Computer is very slow to boot, hanging up after getting past the Windows loading screen to a black screen with a spinning circle. The computer is also very sluggish causing jittery movements on the screens when performing any action.

Recommended Troubleshooting Steps - Windows

1. Check Device Manager (Search for Device Manager and select to open) to see if there is any items have issues. Devices marked with a might have an issue .

  • Try right-clicking on the device, and select Uninstall device. Once the device disappears from the device list, click Action->Scan for hardware changes to allow Windows to re-detect the device and reload appropriate drivers.

2. In the case of external peripheral devices i.e. flash drives, webcams, etc. unplugging the device and plugging it in to a different USB port, will allow Windows to re-detect the device, and reload the drivers and connect.

3. After going through these steps and verifying the device is working properly, reboot the computer and verify that it now boots properly.
