How To Add an Outcome to a Course
This guide sheet will provide the steps to add an Outcome to a course in Canvas. Once the outcome has been imported into the course, it can be added to any type of activity.
Quick Guide:
Step 1: Click Outcomes
Step 2: Click Find. If there are outcomes already in the course, they will appear in a list to the left. If those outcomes are the ones required for your course, they’ve already been added. There is no need to proceed.
Step 3: Click the Account Standards folder.
Step 4: Click the Southeast Missouri State University folder.
Step 5: Click the appropriate college’s folder
Step 6: Click the course level.
Step 7: Click the program folder.
Step 8: Select the outcome(s) to add to the course.
Step 9: The outcome has now been added to the course. It can be added to any type of activity (Assignment, Discussion, or Quiz) using Rubric or adding it to an Item Bank.
1. Click Outcomes
2. Click Find
If there are already outcomes added to your course, they will appear in the list to the left. If those are the outcomes required for your course, they have already been imported into the course. There is no need to continue this process and you may stop here.
3. Click the Account Standards folder

5. Click the appropriate college’s folder
6. Click the appropriate program’s folder
7. Click the course level.
8. Click the program folder.
9. Select the outcome(s) to add to the course.
10. The outcome has now been added to the course. It can be added to any type of activity (Assignment, Discussion, or Quiz) using Rubric or adding it to an Item Bank.
