LockDown Browser: Resolving the Chrome Remote Desktop Error

When taking exams with LockDown Browser, you may encounter an error message stating:"You must close the following application before starting the browser: Google Chrome Remote Desktop (remoting_host.ext)".

If you see this error, please follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Open Command Prompt as Administrator:

  • Search for "cmd" in the Windows search bar.
  • Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator."

Stop Chrome Remote Desktop:

  • In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:
    net stop chromoting
    
  • After running the command, you should see a message indicating that the service has stopped.

Restart LockDown Browser:

  • After executing the command, try launching LockDown Browser again.
