How to Give Additional Attempts or Extra Time on a Canvas New Quiz

Step-by-Step: How to Give Extra Time or Attempts (New Quizzes)

  1. Go to your course in Canvas.

  2. Click on Quizzes (or Assignments, if that's where your quiz is located).

  3. Click the title of the New Quiz.

  4. Click “Build” to open the quiz editor.

  5. In the top right corner, click “Moderate”.

  6. You'll see a list of students. Find the student you want to adjust.

  7. Click the pencil/edit icon next to that student’s name.

  8. In the pop-up window, set:

    • Attempts: Increase the number of allowed attempts (e.g., enter “1” for one extra).

    • Time adjustments: Add extra minutes (e.g., “+20 minutes”) if the quiz is timed.

  9. Click Apply to save the changes.
