Overview
Captions and subtitles provide verbal material in a written format to students, faculty, and staff. They are often displayed within a video file and are synchronized with the audio. To generate closed captions, a .vtt text file must be created and combined with the video file.
Generating Closed Captions
- Record the lecture using PowerPoint
- Export the PowerPoint to a Video
- Select Record
- Export to Video
- Save the Video to OneDrive
- In OneDrive, open the video file. It should open in Microsoft Stream
- Select Video Settings on the right-hand side
- Expand Transcript and captions
- Click Generate
- Review the transcript for spelling or grammar mistakes
- Select the three dots and click Download as .vtt.
- A Word document of the transcript can also be downloaded and added to a Canvas page.
- If edits are made, select the three dots and click Replace
- Upload the edited .vtt file and click Done
The video will now have Closed Captions.
