Remotely Accessing SEMO Computer Lab PC from iPad/iPhone

STEP 1: Setup Virtual Private Network (VPN) Connection

  1. Go to Settings -> General -> VPN.
  2. Tap Add VPN Configuration
  3. Tap Type. Select L2TP and tap Back
  4. Tap Description and enter SEMO STUDENT VPN
  5. Tap Server and enter 150.201.143.95
  6. Tap Account and enter your SE Key
  7. Tap Password and enter your SE Key Password.
  8. Tap Secret and enter Your Bj6Q7gCymVfYZqpsAx19
  9. Make sure the Send All Traffic switch is ON.
  10. Tap Done.

To connect to the VPN, from the Home Screen, tap Settings and in the first section of settings, switch the VPN switch ON.

When it connects, you’ll see a “VPN” symbol appear like below:

STEP 2: Download Windows Remote Desktop App

  1. To remote into a lab computer, you’ll need to download the Microsoft Remote Desktop app from the Apple App Store

  1. Before connecting to a lab computer, it must be determined which lab computer(s) is currently available.
    Visit https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/southeast-missouri-state-university for a list of available lab computers.
    The computers are listed by computer name (KLINFO-##) and host name (KLINFO-##.semo.edu).
    Do not tap on Connect – THIS WILL NOT WORK ON AN IPAD/IPHONE.
     
  2. Return to the Microsoft Remote Desktop app.
  3. When you run the app the first time, it may prompt you to setup a connection. If it doesn’t tap the + in the upper right.
  4. PC Name:            the hostname of the lab computer (see above)
  5. User Account:     leave as “Ask When Required”
  6. Friendly Name:   optional, but you can call it Lab PC or something like that if you like
  7. Tap Save in upper right

STEP 3: Connecting to Lab Computer

  1. The process begins with connecting to the VPN.
  2. Tap on Settings
  3. Tap on the switch next to VPN 
  1. Once connected, the VPN symbol should appear next to the Wi-Fi symbol 
  1. Start the Microsoft Remote Desktop app 
  1. Tap on the connection you created in the previous section.
  2. When prompted enter semodom\SE Key and your SE Key password (same as Portal)
  3. Tap Done
  4. Tap Accept (if prompted)
  5. Once connected the “Warning: This computer system is the property of Southeast Missouri State University…” screen will appear. Tap OK
  6. The computer’s desktop will be displayed.
  7. The application will default to using touch/tap to interact with the Windows computer.
    Example:              single tap = select      double tap = execute/open
  8. At the top of the screen there are three tools:
    1. Magnifying – Zooms in on area of the screen
    2. Menu – Options to end session, add another session, return to app, or toggle input type (touch or mouse)
    3. Keyboard – Toggle on-screen keyboard for data entry
  9. When finished using the lab computer do the following:
    1. Tap the menu tool
    2. Tap End Session
    3. Return to iPad home screen
    4. Tap on Settings
    5. Tap to turn off VPN
