Overview
Students are able to remote into the IT computer lab from both on-campus and off-campus to access lab resources. This article is intended for Windows or MAC users. If you are using a Chromebook to remote into a computer, please visit Remote Computer Labs - Chromebook.
On-Campus
Windows/Mac Instructions
- Browse to: https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/southeast-missouri-state-university.
- Click Connect next to any of the listed computers.
- Click Download on the pop-up.
- Select the downloaded file
- *If a warning appears on screen informing the user that the remote connection cannot be identified, click Connect.
- Login using your SEKey and password
*If you receive a certificate-related message, click Continue
Off-Campus
Windows
Students who are off-campus and wish to use the IT computer labs, must first download the Student VPN.
- Navigate to: https://bit.ly/3fE19Og. Note: Your browser might think the file is malicious. However, you should bypass this warning and download the file.
- If prompted, sign-in with your SE Key and password
- Click the Download button
- Click the downloaded file
- On the pop-up, select More info
- Click Run anyway
Connect to the VPN, then use the following steps to access the IT computer labs
- Browse to: https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/southeast-missouri-state-university.
- Click Connect next to any of the listed computers.
- Click Download on the pop-up.
- Select the downloaded file
*If a warning appears on screen informing the user that the remote connection cannot be identified, click Connect.
- Login using your SEKey and password.
Mac
Students who are off-campus and wish to use the IT computer labs, must first download the StudentVPN.
Identify your Mac's operating system.
- Click the Apple menu in the upper left-hand corner
- Choose About This Mac
- Locate the number next to macOS
*OS 12 and older*
- Open System Preferences and go to the Network section
- Click the + button in the lower-left corner of the window.
- Select VPN from the Interface drop-down menu.
- Select L2TP over IPSec from the VPN Type drop-down menu.
- Enter SEMO STUDENT VPN for the Service Name.
- Click Create.
- Enter 150.201.143.95 for the Server Address
- Enter Your SE Key for the Account Name.
- Click the Authentication Settings button
- In the User Authentication section, select the Password radio button and enter Your SE Key Password
- In the Machine Authentication section, select the Shared Secret radio button and enter Bj6Q7gCymVfYZqpsAx19 (NOTE: this must be entered exactly as shown)
- Click OK
- Check the Show VPN status in menu bar checkbox.
- Click the Advanced button and make sure the Send all traffic over VPN connection checkbox is checked
- Click the TCP/IP tab, and make sure Link-local only is selected in the Configure IPv6 section
- Click OK to close the Advanced settings, and then click Apply to save the VPN connection information
- Visit the Mac App Store and download the free app called Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 from Microsoft.

*OS 13 and newer*
- Open System Settings and go to the Network section
- Click the three dots in the bottom-right corner of the Network section
- Select Add VPN Configuration, and select L2TP over IPSEC
- Enter SEMO Student VPN for the Display Name
- Enter 150.201.143.95 for the Server Address
- Enter your SE Key for the Account Name
- In the User Authentication section, select the Password radio button and enter your SE Key password
- In the Machine Authentication section, select Shared Secret
- Enter the following password in the Shared Secret field: Bj6Q7gCymVfYZqpsAx19 (NOTE: this must be entered exactly as shown)
- Select Options on the left-hand side of the VPN Setup window
- Check the box labeled Send all traffic over VPN connection
- Select TCP/IP on the left-hand side of the VPN Setup window
- In Configure IPv6, change the setting from Automatic to Link-Local only
- Press Create
- In the Network section, select VPN
- Click on the toggle radio button to enable the SEMO Student VPN. If the VPN is properly configured, the status bar should say Connected.
- Visit the Mac App Store and download the free app called Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 from Microsoft.
Connecting to a computer
Once the VPN is setup, you can then connect to an on-campus computer
- Connect to the VPN
- Visit https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/southeast-missouri-state-university.
- Click Connect next to any of the listed computers
- Click Download on the pop-up window
- Find the downloaded file and click to run it – either from the task bar at the bottom or from the Downloads folder
- The connection to the lab computer will be initiated
- When prompted, login with your Southeast email address and password
- If you receive a certificate-related message, click Continue
Note:
- If you can’t connect because someone else is logged into that computer, refresh the page and select another computer.
- Please remember to save frequently to your OneDrive in case you lose connection.
