What is Windows 11 SE EDU?
Microsoft Windows operating system comes in a variety of editions, with specific features designed for the platform's intended customer base.
- Home - basic edition intended for home users
- Pro - same as Home with additional features intended for business professionals and/or "power" users
- Pro for Workstations - same as Pro with some additional file protection features
- Pro for Education - same as Pro with some minor differences, licensed for education
- Enterprise - intended and licensed for large businesses
- Education - same as Enterprise with some minor changes
- SE - also designed for education (K-12)
The Windows SE edition is designed for K-12 education, running on inexpensive, low-end laptops. It is designed to be managed by a K-12 school's technology department. Designed purely for education, it limits potential distractions by removing entertainment apps and games. It also prevents the owner from installing software purchased/downloaded except those programs permitted by the managing organization.

Why are Windows 11 SE devices not listed as an option in the Computer Recommendations web page?
While a laptops running Windows 11 SE will work fine for general email, and web surfing there are considerations when using it for document creation/management and online classes. There may also be some software that is required that will not be available or compatible with Windows 11 SE.
Due to these limitations, these devices are not recommended for use by SEMO students.
