iCloud Private Relay

iCloud Private Relay

Apple’s iCloud Private Relay is a feature included in Apple’s iCloud+ Subscription focused on user data privacy. Private Relay masks information such as public IP addresses and DNS records when using the Safari browser on macOS, iOS, and iPadOS, much like a Virtual Private Network (VPN). While this feature is designed to protect your privacy, Southeast Missouri State University’s network requires certain information to guarantee uninterrupted network access to users. Users that are using Private Relay may encounter issues accessing certain on-campus resources, or may experience difficulty accessing their accounts without using Multi-Factor Authentication, even when on-campus.  Because of this, we recommend disabling Private Relay on Apple products when using Southeast’s network . Alternatively, users can download a different web browser from the iOS or macOS App Store. Common examples include Google Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.

Note: Private Relay is only available to iCloud+ subscribers, and is turned off by default. Private Relay only affects users that are using the Safari web browser. If this setting is turned off, you are using a web browser that is not Safari, or you are not an iCloud+ subscriber, you do not need to do anything.
