Printer Issue: Update Driver to Fix Printing Random Letters

If your printer is printing random letters or you're encountering a "needs driver" error, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Restart the Computer

  • First, try restarting your computer. This can sometimes prompt Windows to automatically detect and install the correct printer drivers.
  • If the issue persists after restarting, proceed with the next steps.

2. Remove the Printer

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Locate the printer that's having issues and click on it.
  • Select Remove.

3. Connect the Printer via Print Server

  • Right-click the Windows icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen and select Run

  • In the Run dialog, type \\printsrv and hit Enter.

  • In the search bar at the top right of the window that appears, type the name of your printer.

  • Once you see your printer listed, right-click it and select Connect.

4. Install the Printer Driver

  • A pop-up window will appear asking if you want to install a new driver for the printer.
  • Click Yes to install the driver.
  • Once the installation is complete, your printer should be working properly again.

Once the Driver has installed you might see an error saying the printer couldn't be added, to fix this problem just click connect again and the problem should be resolved.
