Mapping Network Drive to Drive Letter - Windows

Access to department shared network drives are assigned by SE Key and User Policy. If an employee needs access to a shared network drive, that employee's supervisor should send an email to helpdesk@semo.edu requesting that access.

If a user has access to a shared network drive, but doesn't see that drive among their computers drives, files and folders, the shared drive can be manually "mapped" to a drive letter (example: H:). Follow the instructions below to assign a drive letter to the network share.

NOTE: The example shown is to assign the letter H to the general shared drive assigned to a department

In the search box to the right of the Start Button   type the path to the shared drive (in this example \\aca\sharedata$)

Select Map network drive… as shown below

In the Map Network Drive dialog, select the drive letter H, check Reconnect at sign-in, and click Finish as shown below.

After clicking Finish, the shared drive should be listed under This PC in File Explorer.

If you have further questions about these steps or shared network drives in general, contact the IT Help Desk at 573.651.4357 or helpdesk@semo.edu/
