Lab Assistant

Description

Requirements
  • Credit earned in MI101 or comparable knowledge and experience
  • Basic knowledge and ability to provide support on MS Office Suite applications
  • Ability to provide support for Internet browsing and applications
  • Ability to provide support for email applications and mySEMO
  • Must be able to work the entire semester
  • Must attend the "back to school" meetings held the first Wednesday (for new employees) and the first Thursday (for new and returning employees) prior to the start of each semester
  • Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours for domestic students or 12 credit hours for international students
  • Graduate students that hold a graduate assistantship are not eligible to apply
Duties
  • Provide support for MS Office Suite, email, and Internet applications to students, faculty, and staff
  • Monitor computers, printers, scanner, furniture, and supplies in assigned computer lab
  • Report required equipment repair
  • Keep accurate records on lab usage, supplies, and payroll time
  • Clean and keep tidy the computer lab equipment and work stations
  • Enforce computer lab rules for all users (no food, drink, noise, etc.)
  • Handle printer functions such as replenishing toner and paper and assistance in using equipment

Help Desk Assistant

  • Experience with customer service helpful
  • Ability to communicate technical information in a non-technical manner
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be able to work the entire semester

Duties

  • Hardware and software diagnostics
  • Assisting in the removal of harmful applications, i.e., viruses, spyware, and malware
  • Assisting students, faculty, and staff over the phone, email, and walk-in customers
  • Entering support tickets into IT Service Management (ITSM) software
  • Searching online for possible solutions to increase knowledge base
  • Assisting in the development of support documentation, and training materials for students, faculty and staff
