Local Administrator Rights and Remote Desktop (Windows)

Effective in Fall of 2024, faculty and staff will no longer have local administrator rights on their university-owned computer for their Southeast account, sekey@semo.edu. In general, these rights allow users to install software and make changes to their computer’s configuration. For more information on this change visit the Related Article at right "Admin By Request".

This change to local administrator rights will also remove users ability to remote into their work computer from home (or off-campus).

If a user needs to remote into their work computer, this can be requested using the request form - Request for Remote Desktop

While this capability can be restored for users. most faculty and staff should not need to remote into their work computer.

If there are questions regarding these changes or this request form, contact the IT Help Desk at 573.651.4357 or helpdesk@semo.edu.
