Recommendations

  • Maintain Updated Software

No matter what device you have, there will be updates that are made available to help protect and improve your computer's performance.  Check your computer or device settings for pending OS, application, and security updates.

  • Protect your computer from viruses and malware.

Be sure your computer has anti-virus protection turned on, if your OS does not come with an integrated anti-virus, there are plenty of free options that can be downloaded. For malware protection, Malwarebytes has a free download you can use on your personal computer, please see PC Maintenance.

  • Don't install unnecessary applications.

The more applications running on your computer, the less resources you will have available for necessary functions.

  • Don't allow your hard drive to run out of space.

If your hard drive looks like it's running out of space, or you get pop-ups about no space available, you can clean a few things out.

  • Move your files over to your OneDrive cloud storage, you'll be able to access your files from anywhere, and it acts as a backup in case of computer or drive failure.
  • Uninstall any programs or apps you are sure are no longer needed.
  • Windows - run Disk Cleanup from the Windows (C:) Properties
