Using Respondus

Using Respondus

This guide sheet will outline how to implement Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor. Respondus Monitor requires the lockdown browser be enabled in order to function.
Respondus LockDown Browser makes it so the student cannot use their device to do anything but take an exam. It will force them to close any other programs and will not allow them to open any.
Respondus Monitor will record the user taking the exam. This requires a webcam. The recordings are saved and the instructor can view the video once a student’s attempt is complete. It is wholly up to the instructor to identify unacceptable behavior. Monitor cannot be used without LockDown Browser.
These instructions assume the quiz requiring Respondus has already been created.
**Students using Chromebooks cannot use the LockDown Browser. They will need to find another device or be provided an alternative.**

1.    Go to the Settings of the course, select the Navigation tab, and move LockDown Browser to the active course items. Save and return to the Home screen.

2.    Click on LockDown Browser.

3.    Click the dropdown next to the exam that needs to require Respondus and click Settings.

4.    Click the button to require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam and click Save + Close.

5.    To add Monitor, click the button to require Respondus Monitor for this exam and click Save + Close.

6.    The process is complete. Students are directed to download an application before they take the exam. Once they finish the attempt, the recording is uploaded to Respondus automatically. If the student turns off their device before the session video is uploaded, it will pause until the student powers on the device again.
To access the recordings, click on LockDown Browser in the course navigation menu and find the exam. Recordings will appear in the quiz dropdown.
