Accessing a Shared Mailbox from Off-Campus
Most office or department shared email accounts (such as registrar@semo.edu or admissions@semo.edu) are only accessible via delegate access.
Delegate access means, that the shared account is connected to a user's individual Southeast email account as a secondary mailbox.
When using the Outlook desktop app, the delegate mailbox will be displayed under the user's individual account in the folder list on the left side of the application window.
Since shared accounts do not have login credentials assigned to them, in order to access a shared account from off-campus there are two methods:
Using the Outlook Desktop App
If using the Outlook desktop app while off-campus (from a university laptop for example), the account will be subject to multi-factor authentication.
Alternatively, if connected to the SEMO RDP VPN or Open VPN, the Outlook desktop app will function in same way as when it is opened on-campus.
Using the Outlook Web Interface
Alternatively to using the Outlook desktop app, email accounts can be accessed via the Outlook web interface (http://mail.semo.edu or http://office.semo.edu).
NOTE: While off-campus , the account will be subject to multi-factor authentication.
Once the user is logged into their individual Southeast email account, the shared mailbox can be accessed by doing the following:
- In the upper right corner, click on initials (or profile photo) and select Open another mailbox
- In the pop up box enter the shared mailbox address and select the account from below the box.
- Another browser tab will open with the shared mailbox.
