Remote Computer Labs - Windows & Mac

Overview

Students are able to remote into the IT computer lab from both on-campus and off-campus to access lab resources. This article is intended for Windows or MAC users. If you are using a Chromebook to remote into a computer, please visit Remote Computer Labs - Chromebook. 

 

On-Campus

Windows/Mac Instructions 

  1. Browse to: https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/southeast-missouri-state-university.
  2. Click Connect next to any of the listed computers.
  3. Click Download on the pop-up.
  4. Select the downloaded file
  5. *If a warning appears on screen informing the user that the remote connection cannot be identified, click Connect.
  6. Login using your SEKey and password
    *If you receive a certificate-related message, click Continue

Off-Campus

Windows

Students who are off-campus and wish to use the IT computer labs, must first download the Student VPN.

  1. Navigate to: https://bit.ly/3fE19Og. Note: Your browser might think the file is malicious. However, you should bypass this warning and download the file.  
  2. If prompted, sign-in with your SE Key and password
  3. Click the Download button
  4. Click the downloaded file
  5. On the pop-up, select More info
  6. Click Run anyway

Connect to the VPN, then use the following steps to access the IT computer labs

  1. Browse to: https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/southeast-missouri-state-university.
  2. Click Connect next to any of the listed computers.
  3. Click Download on the pop-up.
  4. Select the downloaded file
    *If a warning appears on screen informing the user that the remote connection cannot be identified, click Connect.
  5. Login using your SEKey and password.

Mac

Students who are off-campus and wish to use the IT computer labs, must first download the StudentVPN.

Identify your Mac's operating system.

  1. Click the Apple menu in the upper left-hand corner
  2. Choose About This Mac
  3. Locate the number next to macOS

*OS 12 and older*

  1. Open System Preferences and go to the Network section
  2. Click the + button in the lower-left corner of the window.
  3. Select VPN from the Interface drop-down menu.
  4. Select L2TP over IPSec from the VPN Type drop-down menu.
  5. Enter SEMO STUDENT VPN for the Service Name.
  6. Click Create.
  7. Enter 150.201.143.95 for the Server Address
  8. Enter Your SE Key for the Account Name.
  9. Click the Authentication Settings button
  10. In the User Authentication section, select the Password radio button and enter Your SE Key Password
  11. In the Machine Authentication section, select the Shared Secret radio button and enter Bj6Q7gCymVfYZqpsAx19 (NOTE: this must be entered exactly as shown)
  12. Click OK
  13. Check the Show VPN status in menu bar checkbox.
  14. Click the Advanced button and make sure the Send all traffic over VPN connection checkbox is checked
  15. Click the TCP/IP tab, and make sure Link-local only is selected in the Configure IPv6 section
  16. Click OK to close the Advanced settings, and then click Apply to save the VPN connection information
  17. Visit the Mac App Store and download the free app called Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 from Microsoft
  18. See section "Connecting to a computer" listed below OS 13 and newer

*OS 13 and newer*

  1.  Open System Settings and go to the Network section
  2. Click the three dots in the bottom-right corner of the Network section
  3. Select Add VPN Configuration, and select L2TP over IPSEC
  4. Enter SEMO Student VPN for the Display Name
  5. Enter 150.201.143.95 for the Server Address
  6. Enter your SE Key for the Account Name
  7. In the User Authentication section, select the Password radio button and enter your SE Key password
  8. In the Machine Authentication section, select Shared Secret
  9. Enter the following password in the Shared Secret field: Bj6Q7gCymVfYZqpsAx19 (NOTE: this must be entered exactly as shown)
  10. Select Options on the left-hand side of the VPN Setup window
  11. Check the box labeled Send all traffic over VPN connection
  12. Select TCP/IP on the left-hand side of the VPN Setup window
  13. In Configure IPv6, change the setting from Automatic to Link-Local only
  14. Press Create
  15. In the Network section, select VPN
  16. Click on the toggle radio button to enable the SEMO Student VPN. If the VPN is properly configured, the status bar should say Connected.
  17. Visit the Mac App Store and download the free app called Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 from Microsoft

Connecting to a computer

Once the VPN is setup, you can then connect to an on-campus computer

  1. Connect to the VPN
  2. Visit https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/southeast-missouri-state-university. 
  3. Click Connect next to any of the listed computers
  4. Click Download on the pop-up window
  5. Find the downloaded file and click to run it – either from the task bar at the bottom or from the Downloads folder
  6. The connection to the lab computer will be initiated
  7. When prompted, login with your Southeast email address and password
  8. If you receive a certificate-related message, click Continue

 

Note: 

  • If you can’t connect because someone else is logged into that computer, refresh the page and select another computer.
  • Please remember to save frequently to your OneDrive in case you lose connection.
