Narrating and recording PowerPoint presentations

Narrating and recording PowerPoint presentations requires a complete PowerPoint, a computer with administrative access, and a web camera with a microphone.

  1. Log into Canvas.
  2. Click on the Canvas Studio icon on the left.

  1. Click the Record button in the upper right.

  1. Choose Screen Capture.

  1. Canvas will prompt to open the Screen Recorder Launcher v2.0. Click to do so. It will then prompt a download of that application. Download it and follow the on-screen instructions. Once the app is installed, new options will become available.

  1. This will open a new tool set and add a striped box. Select the Both option. This will record both the webcam and the screen.

  1. Check the microphone and the video input. The arrow on the Narration and on the Webcam titles will allow you to choose the microphone and camera used to record.

  1. Open the PowerPoint and resize the striped recording window from the corners so that it fits the presentation.

  1. Press record and record the presentation. There is very little editing available in Studio—only the ability to crop the beginning and end. More extensive editing will require more advanced editing software, like iMovie or Camtasia.

  1. Give the video a title and click Publish.
  2. Go to the course in which the presentation is due and click on the assignment.

  1. Click Start Assignment

  1. Click on the Studio tab.

  1. Select the video.

  1. Click Embed.

  1. Click the Submit Assignment button.
