Summary

To accommodate remote working and teaching, Southeast has developed Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) that can be used to access university resources and university office computers while off-campus.

To accommodate remote working and teaching, Southeast has developed Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) that can be used to access university resources and university office computers while off-campus.

SEMO RDP VPN

The SEMO RDP VPN is used by faculty and staff to allow remote access to university office computers. In order to set up this VPN, do the following:
 

  1. Windows users can visit this website to download and install the RDP VPN installer.
  2. After a few moments, a prompt will appear that says: "VPN setup complete.
  3. Please reboot your computer to finish." Press OK and reboot your machine.
  4. After rebooting, click on the network icon in the bottom right of your taskbar, next to the date and time. 
  5. Click on "SEMO RDP VPN" and press Connect; you will be prompted to sign in with your SE Key and Password.

Once you have connected to the SEMO RDP VPN, you should be able to remote into university office computers from off-campus.

SEMO OpenVPN

The SEMO OpenVPN is used by faculty and staff to allow access to university resources such as shared network drives from off-campus. The process for gaining access to the SEMO OpenVPN is a little more complex than the process for the SEMO RDP VPN. In order to gain access to the SEMO OpenVPN, do the following:

  1. Contact the IT Help Desk at helpdesk@semo.edu or 573-651-4357, or by submitting a ticket in Web Help Desk
  2. Provide your Southeast email address and reason for access.
  3. Once IT has setup an account, you will receive an email with more information including a username and password, as well as instructions for setting up the SEMO OpenVPN. The IT Help Desk can also assist with setup of the SEMO OpenVPN if needed.

Once you have set up and connected to the SEMO OpenVPN, you should be able to access sites like Banner and university resources like shared network drives. If assistance accessing these resources are needed, please contact the IT Help Desk at 573-651-4357 or helpdesk@semo.edu
